Shutter Island

Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo star in Martin Scorsese's dark, 1950s-set mystery thriller, based on Dennis Lehane's bestseller. Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) was among the US troops who liberated the Dachau concentration camp from the Nazis during World War II. The horrors he witnessed there, together with other grim memories from the war and his wife's death, haunt him. Now, Daniels is a US Marshal, and he and his partner (Ruffalo) have been sent to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a woman who murdered her three children. She has, somehow, vanished from the ultra-secure asylum for the criminally insane on Shutter Island, located far out to sea on a forbidding rocky outcrop. As a massive storm rolls in, threatening to keep them on the island for days, the detectives' disquiet at the asylum's relaxed regime starts to morph into fear, as they begin to suspect that terrible things take place within its walls...
