Armchair Thriller: The Circe Complex (ITV 1980, Trevor Martin, James Hazledine)

In the Armchair Thriller serial The Circe Complex (which was the last of the regular serials to be made) jeweller Tom Forman steals half a million pounds worth of gems and during the getaway kills a policeman. He is quickly caught and sentenced to a long term prison sentence. His wife Val teams up with the psychiatrist, Ollie Milton, who is treating Tom (and also having an affair with Val) to devise a plot to get Tom out of prison with the aim to getting their hands on the gems which were never recovered.

Some great location shooting and lots of dodgy synthesiser on the soundtrack, as well as an intriguing plotline keeps up the interest, some of the interrogation scenes between Tom and Ollie are a bit gruesome though. In all of these Armchair Thrillers, whenever the characters take refuge in the countryside it is always in some fantastic cottage somewhere. Very clever ending too.
