Bad Man, The (BBC 1947 with Charles Irwin and Ben Williams)

UK / BBC / 1×90 minute episode / Broadcast Live 24 June 1946 in black and white

Writer: Porter Emerson Browne / Producer: Eric Fawcett

Western drama. In the American west a war veteran stuck in a wheelchair finds himself doing battle with property developers. As was usual with pretty much all the early live BBC dramas there was a re-staging of the whole thing three days later on the 27 June 1947.

This was also British television’s first attempt at the Western drama, something which in general it has usually steered clear of.
