Three hour Channel 9 telemovie Beaconsfield tells the dramatic real life story of the rescue of two Tasmanian miners Todd Russell and Brant Webb who spent 14 days trapped together in the rubble of a collapsed mine in Beaconsfield one whole kilometre below the surface. The story held not just Australia but the whole world gripped as the rescue teams battled to keep the men alive.
Shane Jacobson stars alongside Lachy Hulme and the production focuses on the rescue from the point of view of the two rescue teams who had to come up with a plan that had never been tried before.
Producer John Edwards said of the rescue “The mechanics were complex and intriguing – the tension of The Great Escape combines with the compelling detail of Apollo 13.”
