Big Girl’s Blouse (Channel 7 1994-1995 with Gina Riley and Jane Turner)

Australia / Channel 7 / 5×30 minute episodes and 4×60 minute episodes / Broadcast 1994-1995

Writer/Producers: The Cast / Executive Producers: Ted Emery, Andrew Knight, Steve Vizard / Director: Kevin Carlin

Sketch based series. Starting in 1994 Big Girls Blouse featured three girls from the hit sketch show Fast Forward, Jane Turner, Gina Riley and Magda Szubanski appeared with their own show, ploughing a similar furrow as Fast Forward Big Girl’s Blouse was easily the equal of FF.

Stand out for most people will be the early sketches featuring Kath and Kim (who would go on to be considered to be the saviours of the Australian sitcom) in which Kim is busy preparing for her upcoming wedding not helped of course by the interfering of mum Kath and best friend Sharon).

Without question the girls are very funny and very clever and Big Girls Blouse is great fun to watch. Standouts include the numerous fake documentaries such as the one about the obsessive mother trying to make her daughter a child star even though she is 33 and there is also much fun to be had with the The Coralee Hollow Dance Company who make regular insane appearances throughout the series.

Mostly shot on film and with a glossy feel Big Girls Blouse is never less than very entertaining and also worthy of note is the way that the girls are willing to go that extra yard to really make fools of themselves.
