Binge has greenlit a six-part drama based on the life of Brenden Abbott, the infamous Australian fugitive known as the “Postcard Bandit.” Production is now underway in Western Australia, with George Mason cast in the lead.
The untitled series, produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia for the Foxtel Group, will chart Abbott’s rise and recapture during the 1980s and 90s. Once one of Australia’s most wanted criminals, Abbott became a national fascination for his high-stakes bank robberies and bold prison escapes—earning the media nickname after allegedly taunting police with holiday postcards sent while on the run.
Mason (The Power of the Dog) is joined by Robyn Malcolm, Ashleigh Cummings, and Keiynan Lonsdale. The supporting cast includes Anthony Hayes, Oscar Redding, and Mia Artemis. The series draws from Derek Pedley’s biography Australian Outlaw and features a writing team led by Sarah Walker, with direction from Ben Young (Hounds of Love) and Bonnie Moir.
For Binge, this continues a pivot into locally made true-crime drama with broader commercial and critical potential. The Postcard Bandit project follows in the wake of Foxtel Group’s scripted investments like The Twelve and Love Me.
Screenwest and the WA Production Attraction Incentive are backing the shoot, with the production expected to generate over $7 million in regional economic activity. ITV Studios will handle international distribution, positioning the series for a wider audience beyond Australia.
No premiere date has been set, but filming is underway and the project is expected to headline Binge’s 2026 drama slate.
