Crime drama series Castle follows the cases of it’s namesake hero Richard Castle a famous detective novelist and divorced father with a teenage daughter. Castle, as a way of gaining material for his novels, works closely with NYPD detective Kate Beckett. The pair initially don’t hit it off at all but over the course of the series the pair develop a strong working relationship.
Light hearted and with a nice line in humour Castle sort of harks back to the golden age era of the 1970′s and 80′s. Castle and Beckett have a nicely spiky relationship that hints at possibly more and also carries echoes of vintage Hollywood with some of their fast paced cross-talk. In a handy piece of marketing potential the producers have also created a line of real life “Richard Castle” detective novels and in a cool nod to the genre Castle himself regularly plays poker with some of the biggest names in crime fiction with people like James Patterson, Dennis LeHane and Michael Connolly often popping up.
