Period costume drama which told the story of idealistic Daniel Deronda, who rescues a young Jewish girl from drowning then sets about helping her find her family and in so doing discovers the truth of his own roots.

And running alongside that we also meet Gwendolen Harleth, a beautiful flighty young thing who feels compelled to marry the powerful but cruel Mr Grandcourt to save her families fortunes.
