Gambling Man, The (ITV 1994, Robson Green, Sylvestra Le Touzel)

Period drama serial The Gambling Man was based on one of the first novels written by Catherine Cookson and focused on rent collector Rory Connor who was determined to find a way out of the slums of South Shields in the 1870’s by making his fortune on the gaming tables but tragedy awaits him.

Robson Green was very much the most popular man on TV at the time this was made, ITV were busy adapting all of Cookson’s much loved novels in the early 1990’s too and they were highly popular into the bargain.
