Geraldine Doogue AO To Deliver 2025 Andrew Olle Media Lecture for ABC Australia

Veteran Australian journalist Geraldine Doogue AO has been set to deliver the prestigious 2025 Andrew Olle Media Lecture. The annual event, a key fixture in the Australian media calendar, is scheduled for Friday, July 25, 2025, at the W Hotel in Darling Harbour.

Doogue, whose career spans more than five decades across print, television, and radio, currently co-presents the world affairs podcast Global Roaming with Hamish Macdonald for ABC Radio National. Her selection underscores the lecture’s tradition of featuring influential voices to discuss the role and future of media.

The Andrew Olle Media Lecture honors the legacy of the late ABC broadcaster Andrew Olle, who passed away in 1995 from a brain tumor. Fittingly, Brain Cancer Australia will serve as the charity partner for the 2025 event, with funds raised dedicated to research and awareness.

Doogue called it an honour to present the lecture, stating Andrew Olle represents “a terrific example of broad, generalist and curious journalism.” In 2003, Doogue was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for her contributions to the community and media. Notably, both Doogue and Olle were inducted into the Australian Media Hall of Fame in 2018.

Robyn Leonard OAM, Founder and Director of Brain Cancer Australia, emphasized the “vital role the lecture has in raising both awareness and funds to support the charity’s mission.”
Established in 1996, the Andrew Olle Media Lecture has previously featured prominent figures such as Fran Kelly, Leigh Sales, and Ita Buttrose AC OBE. Tickets for the 2025 lecture are now on sale.
