Hulu Sets May 20 Launch for Romance Scam Docuseries from ABC News Studios

Hulu is loading up another true-crime swing for the bundle audience with Hey Beautiful: Anatomy of a Romance Scam, a three-part docuseries dropping Tuesday, May 20. The project comes out of ABC News Studios, the same division behind *Scamanda*, and lands on both Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ as the company continues to push nonfiction content across its unified platform.

The series centers on Annette, Roxy, and Gaby—three women who believed they’d found love online, only to realize they were caught in the same high-stakes con. The scam pulled in more than emotions: it kicked off a cross-country investigation that spiraled into dangerous territory as the women closed in on the man behind the lie.

Hey Beautiful is produced by Anchor Entertainment in association with Trinoculus Films, with ABC News Studios backing the doc. Mike Kelley, who oversees ABC News Studios, has leaned into victim-driven narratives as a hallmark of the studio’s true-crime slate—part of a broader strategy to differentiate its output in a crowded nonfiction field.

The show also folds in a broader look at the new tools scammers are leveraging—including AI, voice cloning, and deepfakes—to scale up romance fraud. Per the FBI, romance scams cost U.S. victims more than $16 billion in 2024, up more than 30% year-over-year.

For Hulu, true crime remains a high-performing lane, and this latest title arrives with built-in genre appeal—and the kind of narrative escalation streamers count on to drive binge completion.
