Australian period drama Ladies in Black is heading to the UK and Ireland, with UKTV acquiring the series for its streaming service ‘U’. The deal was struck with ABC Commercial, the distribution arm of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Produced by Bunya Productions, Ladies in Black is based on Madeleine St John’s novel and set in 1960s Sydney. The drama centers on the lives of a group of department store employees and stars Debi Mazar (Younger, Entourage), Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and Jessica De Gouw (Arrow, The Secrets She Keeps).
Melanie Rumani, Global Head of Acquisitions at UKTV and BBC Studios, said she was “delighted” to bring the series to UK audiences via ‘U’. Karen Quinn, Manager of Content Sales at ABC Commercial, noted her excitement about the UKTV pickup.
The UKTV pact marks another international sale for the series, which has previously landed with Now TV in Hong Kong, YLE in Finland, and Proximus Media House in Belgium.
The series has gained attention for its 1960s visual style and soundtrack, alongside its focus on female narratives. There is currently no word on a second season for Ladies in Black.
