Wilfred Thomas looks into the legend which is Dame Nellie Melba, the great Australian opera singer. He talks with her contemporaries, Dame Sybil Thorndike, Lady Jessie Wood (wife of Sir Henry), who sang with her in 1905, Ivor Neuton, her accompanist, Beverly Nichols, her private secretary.

Also taking part were Dame Mable Brookes, Australian singers Gertrude Johnson and Browning Mummery, and Lindley Evans.
