Sky History continues its examination of one of World War II’s most notorious figures in Mengele Unveiled. The second episode, “Auschwitz: Unveiling the Angel of Death,” airs Monday, May 19 at 9:00 PM GMT.
This installment traces Josef Mengele’s early life and academic background, exploring the factors that led to his embrace of Nazism. It then details the inhumane experiments he conducted at the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The 70-minute documentary also investigates the connections between the Nazi ideology and the German academic system, questioning how such an environment facilitated Mengele’s actions. The series draws on unpublished documents, expert reports, and survivor testimonies to construct its narrative, considering whether Mengele was solely a war criminal or a scapegoat for the broader atrocities of Nazism.
