Disney+ has greenlit Alice and Steve (w/t), an original comedy series hailing from acclaimed production house Clerkenwell Films, with Nicola Walker (The Split) and Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows) set to star. Production is underway in London.
The six-episode series centers on the titular Alice (Walker) and Steve (Clement), whose long-standing friendship is thrown into turmoil when Steve embarks on a relationship with Alice’s twenty-six-year-old daughter, played by Yali Topol Margalith.
Sophie Goodhart (Sex Education) is writing the series and will executive produce. BAFTA-winner Tom Kingsley (This Is Going To Hurt) is attached to direct.
The supporting cast includes Joel Fry (Our Flag Means Death), Tyrese Eaton-Dyce (Sherwood), and Olivier-winner Marcia Warren (The Crown).
For Clerkenwell Films, a BBC Studios company, Petra Fried, Andy Baker, and Ed Macdonald will serve as executive producers. Fran du Pille is producing. Lee Mason, Executive Director of Scripted, EMEA, will oversee for Disney+.
Billed as an “anti-romantic comedy,” the project promises a sophisticated and hilariously absurd examination of complicated relationships and their messy fallout.
