Nijinsky | 1980 | Alan Bates, George de la Peña

Turning Point director Herbert Ross returns to the world of ballet with this biography of Vaslav Nijinsky, recreating the celebrated Russian dancer’s loves and difficulties at the peak of his career. Nijinsky (George De La Pena) becomes a star performer under the tutelage of famed impresario Sergei Diaghilev (Alan Bates), who obsessively controls all facets of Nijinsky’s life.

Real-life dancer and Turning Point star Leslie Browne plays Romola De Pulsky, who upon wedding Nijinsky forever destroyed the dancer’s relationship with Diaghilev. Nijinsky features the feature film debut of actor Jeremy Irons playing legendary choreographer Mikhail Fokhine. Prior to this film Irons had appeared in a number of British TV dramas including The Pallisers (1974) and Love for Lydia (1978).
