Period ghost story. A very welcome addition to the UK / BBC’s Ghost Story for Christmas series of one off productions. Anderson is an Oxbridge academic who is visiting a small cathedral city to authenticate some historical documents. He is staying at the local hotel, where events soon take a bizarre turn. On his way back to his room, number 12, he stumbles across room number 13.

That night, he is disturbed by strange sounds coming from the room next door. In the morning, he enquires who the noisy guests are but is told that no such room exists. Baffled by the night’s activities, he heads to the archive to continue his work and makes a sinister discovery. Back at the hotel, the spine-chilling noises in the room “next door” return. Determined to discover the truth, Anderson decides to enter number 13 – with terrifying consequences.
