OK Crackerby (ABC 1965-1966, Burl Ives, Hal Buckley)

Sitcom OK Crackerby followed the misadventures of the worlds richest man who having made his fortune out in Oklahoma was desperate to get himself a seat at the top table in the world of high society. In best Pygmalion fashion OK hired St John Quinney, a Harvard grad, to help him make in roads into social acceptance-dom.

Most episodes revolved around various social get togethers and functions and also heavily featured were St john’s main squeeze and OK’s business partner Slim.

There wasn’t really a great deal of milage to be had in the show hence the fact that it only lasted a single season, show creator Cleveland Amory was chief tv critic of TV Guide magazine. Being made in black and white at a time when most sitcoms were being made in colour probably didn’t help either.
