Sir Bobby Charlton: Football Icon (BBC-2 28 April 2011)

Tieing in with the BBC2 drama United about the Busby Babes, Sir Bobby Charlton: Football Icon is a fabulous look at the life and career of English football’s best loved footballer and certainly one of the greatest to ever Grace a football field.

Charlton himself was amongst the survivors of the Munich Air Disaster which left many of his Manchest United team mates dead but he became a crucial figure in the club’s resurgence, winning two league titles and, unforgettably, in 1968, the European Cup against Benfica. Renowned for his attacking instincts and ferocious long-range shot, he is still the record goal scorer for England and Manchester United.

Packed full of great archive footage and interviews with not only Sir Bobby but also other classic footballers including Franz Beckenbauer, Eusebio, David Beckham, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Geoff Hurst, Harry Greig, Gordon Banks, Ryan Giggs, Gary Lineker and Bobby’s brother, Jack.
