The Clouded Yellow | 1950 | Jean Simmons, Trevor Howard

After a few minor films, director Ralph Thomas joined forces with Betty Box (producer Sydney Box’s sister) to make this entertaining though tame psychological mystery thriller. Ex-secret serviceman Trevor Howard takes a job as a cataloguer of butterflies, hence the rather cryptic title, and becomes involved with Jean Simmons, a strange fragile young girl accused of murder.

In a sub-Hitchcockian man-on-the-run manner, they are pursued across Britain by Scotland Yard man Kenneth More.
