Yesterday’s Hero | 1979 | Ian McShane, Suzanne Somers

Jackie Collins-scripted nonsense which follows the misfortunes of washed up footballer Ian McShane, as he struggles against all the odds to stage a comeback. Collins just uses the football as a backdrop for her usual glossy melodrama without even attempting to add an ounce of authenticity. Her own spin on the world of football is enough to put anyone off sport for life. McShane takes the plaudits, his footballing pedigree (his dad was a professional for Manchester United and McShane himself an accomplished player) making him very comfortable in his boots.
